Drive down the driveway, past an enormous banyan tree, to this large home. This classic Hawaiian home, with its original lava rock wall entrance, is the main house on one of east Oahu's larger ocean front properties. It has been remodeled, while maintaining its original Hawaiian charm. The open style of this hawaiian property has ideal vacation home conveniences, such as a completely renovated ocean view kitchen with 2 refrigerators, an ocean view master bath, a living room with doors that open to the ocean and a jacuzzi where you can sit steps away from the sand and water. The many spacious bedrooms in this house allow groups to stay together while affording ample private space. The home spans the entire ocean front portion of the lot. This home also has access to a large gated shared pool, located on the roadside portion of the property. The two small cottages closer to the pool are also available for rental for groups wanting larger accomodations. The water in front of the home is shallow, which is good for children. Surfing is possible during the summer months in front of the home if you walk out past the reef where it gets deeper. Amazing snorkling is just a few minutes up the road at world famous Hanauma Bay. Our stay was very enjoyable. I do feel that the house floors needed to be cleaned a little better. It would be nice to have AC in the livingroom and kitchen area. The house was nice and roomy and accomodated our family very well. I loved all the windows, the bbq was great and so was the hottub! I would stay again.

We visited this home in August 2011. It is a big, spacious home in a great location. However, the house itself is in serious need of some TLC, not to mention central air. Was disappointed to find that we would need to provide our own paper towels, napkins,
saran wrap, garbage bags, etc, (there werent even things like tupperware for leftovers) all kitchen basics that should already be there, especially for a house that cost almost $5000.00 for under a week. Cigarette butts were everywhere, even crammed into the
stones on the front of the house. We went out to use the bar-b-cue, and after a grease fire finally died out, started to grill our New Yorks only to have the propane run out. There was another tank, but it too was empty. It was annoying to have to turn the
oven on in an already 90 degree house. It would also have been nice to have comfortable places for everyone to sit, the living room is large enough for more couches and chairs, and they should be there, not a bunch of table chairs. Being that this was a "family"
oriented house, it would have been nice for the kids to have some toys, not to mention games and cards for the adults. On the positive, the beach is fantastic, the beds are firm and comfortable, there are plenty of beach towels, the washer and dryer was a
huge plus, the two wonderful refrigerators (though they barely make ice, add that to your LONG shopping list of stuff you shouldnt have to buy) and the pool is AWESOME for cooling off (if the occupants of other cottages are occupying it). We plan to return
next year, but probably to a different house.

We stayed at the Banyan Tree for 5 nights. Although our stay was short one, all of us loved the vacation rental property. The location was good for shopping, driving, and swimming. The house and whole furniture produced good old Hawaiian taste. The scenery
around the house was beautiful and calm. We enjoyed the birds singing and felt peaceful moment at the beach in front of the house. We had been very comfortable as if we live in our own home and experienced more we expected during our stay. We thank all of

It would be nice if the property had more water toys - boggie boards a longboard or 2, sups etc....
We absolutely loved our stay at The Banyan Tree! The house could be quite warm during the daytime because of no AC in the living areas but that would be our only complaint. Everything was wonderful and I would definitely stay there again!

We totally enjoyed our stay at the Banyan Tree. We loved the kitchen with the double refrigerators; a group of our size (11) needed the extra room. We ate most of our meals in and the ample space in the kitchen allowed us to cook together without tripping over each other. It was well equipped with everything we needed to make our simple meals. The large tables for seating many people for dinners was also appreciated. The big round table in the living room was perfect for playing games at night. The management staff was awesome; any problems (there were few) were addressed amiably and promptly. A washer and dryer on the premises was so convenient for keeping our laundry under control. We used the hot tub almost everyday, but not the pool. It was beautiful but with all the beaches and gorgeous water surrounding the island we were otherwise occupied. There is a Costco 10 min. away and a Foodland 3 min. down the road, which were very convenient. This house was great for a large group, but not perfect. The front "bedroom" has no closet and the wall between it and the living room is mostly just a shell panel. It doesn't filter noise well. The only person who should be assigned that room is someone who sleeps very heavily and doesn't snore. The furniture in the house looks great in the pictures, but much of it is well worn, which I guess is to be expected in a rental unit. Some of the areas in the house need some updating too. I think it is a work in progress as there were new wood floors in the bedrooms, and the kitchen and two of the bathrooms have been redone. The beach in front of the house is not terrific and the water is very shallow out for quite a way. It is not good for swimming, although it is very safe for small children. All in all I would recommend this house to a large group looking for comfort and affordability, but not luxury.

Way more than we expected. This location is private yet close to everything we needed. Surprisingly peaceful and private despite being so close to main roads. The home is incredibly spacious with plenty of room for everyone and comfortably livable. Highly recommended (as long as you don't take my time slot for when we return!!)

There were 9 of us, My wife and I. our 4 kids and 3 boyfriends/ girlfriends. The house worked perfectly for us. Everybody had their own rooms and the common area was huge. The beach was nice for walks or just chillin. The swimming was not great because the water was so shallow, but it was nice being on the water. We enjoyed the hot tub and the pool. The 2 other cabins on the property were not an issue for us. The house was private and we never saw anyone else in the pool when we used it.
The condition of the house could be described as relaxed. it had that cabin sort of feel. cupboards and doors needed adjustment, the fan in the master bedroom was noisy and it would be nice if they took away the old appliances when they replaced them. However, all the air conditioners worked, the double fridges were were nice and the place was complete for an extended stay.
We would definitely go back to the Banyan Tree.

As close as the property was to the highway we were surprised at how quiet it was. Except for the front yard and pool area, we never heard highway traffic. All rooms were large and comfortable, but the Jack and Jill bathroom between two of the bedrooms could be awkward for some parties. Whole house A/C would be nice, but we had continuous breezes all week (avg. temp 85 in early November) and it was fine. Don't go swimming out in the waves without a boogie board or surfboard as it can be deceivingly treacherous. I had snorkeling gear, had a fin torn off, my snorkel torn off and had to be rescued or I wouldn't be here writing this.

When our two weeks were up I did not want to leave and I usually look forward to getting home, but not this time. The house was well equipped and comfortable enough for a large number of people to enjoy it without feeling cramped. The beach wasn't swimmable but we were close to Huanama Bay so that didn't matter. The pool water was crystal clear and refreshing and the location was near my daughter's house and an easy drive to anywhere else we wanted to go. The only negative was the layout of the bedrooms-a better description of the two bedrooms with a bath between and the bedroom that was more of a porch (not near a bathroom) would have been nice. The snorkel gear and boogie boards were appreciated and having the washer/dryer meant we had fresh towels daily which was a real luxury! I miss the sounds of the ocean and the evening breezes now that I am back in Texas. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The home has five bedrooms and three full bathrooms: the master has an ensuite bathroom, the second and third bedrooms are connected by a large, handicap accessible bathroom, and the third bath is directly next to the fourth bedroom and seperated from the fifth bedroom by the living room. It's true that Haunama Bay, one of the most beautiful snorkeling spots in Hawaii, is very close by. But you can also swim and snorkel just outside of the home, simply walk about 100 feet and you will be past the shallow area and in water perfect for swimming.

Our 3 year old grandson loved the beach and the shallow water. He was out before breakfast every morning with his grandpa. The only problem was with the handicap accessible bathroom. It wasn't. A low toilet and strange bar arrangement made it difficult for me to use. Hopefully they have fixed this but if you need accessibility, check first. The open floorplan worked well with my scooter.

The only complaint is that the main lounge didn't have air got really hot, especially when cooking. The ceiling fans didn't really cool the place down. The entire estate is perfect for large families as everyone can congregate in the big house, at the beach, on the expansive lawn, and at the pool, yet go to their own private home at the days end. All of the smaller homes on the estate are beautiful and private with fully stocked kitchens, full baths, private fenced in yards with patio furniture and bbq's, and three of the homes also have private jacuzzis. The pool is also enclosed by a fence and the property can be gated off from the road, safety measures we have in place for adventerous little ones.

We rented all 4 houses for my sister's wedding so everyone could stay together. We did the ceremony there in the backyard. It was a great experience. The homes were nice, it was great to have Banyan Tree as a gathering spot. The only complaint we have is the hot water was sketchy in the main house. If the water heater was replaced, it would be perfect.

This place really is a beach side property. Step from the garden onto the sand. The sea here is not too good for swimming, you can walk out a long way in the shallows. The house has a very large lounge area comfortable for our party of eight. Free wi-fi on unsecured network. Not enough bathrooms in the morning when everyone wants to use them. We were sad when it was time to leave.

  We're happy you enjoyed yourself! The beach here is actually great for swimming, simply walk out past the shallow area about 100 feet and it is nice and deep. The water near the home is calm enough for young children to play in safely, yet you can still hear the waves lapping on the shore as you fall asleep at night (or in the afternoon...why not, your on vacation!).

We really enjoyed our stay - the view was beautiful every night, the house itself is gorgeous and very impressive. The kitchen was great to have - we stayed in for half our meals, and there was so much convenient and comfortable seating for all of us. Great to have two large fridges, too. The beach was so close that we could let the kids go out on their own, and since the water was very, very shallow for nearly 1/4 mile out from the sandy beach, we didn't really worry about them being swept away. The jacuzzi was nice to have, since water was cooler than expected. Location of the house was very central, within easy driving distance to both Waikiki and Hawaii Kai/Waimanalo/etc. Wifi was good, too. Main living area was huge and great for an extended family reunion, with lots of sleeping rooms. Room configuration was a little weird (master suite had another room leading off the bathroom, which was great for family with kids, but could be awkward if accommodating two couples.) We would love to come back for another visit.
Though the house was very impressive and beautiful at first glance, many simple maintenance items were not ready at move-in. The house is definitely not a newer property, or even a newer remodel - for instance, paint on the drawers in the master bath was peeling so badly that half of them were different colors, and there was mildew in many areas. However, Bob responded to our only complaint email immediately, quickly fixing most of the functional problems (light bulbs and dirty washing machine) with complete courtesy and a terrific, friendly attitude. At move-in, nearly half of all light bulbs were not working, there were loose electrical fixtures on walls and door hardware about to fall off doors, a broken rack in freezer. Hall closet door completely off hinges. Back patio screens very loose and fell off tracks constantly. Not sure what's wrong with the patio door screens but they do not work correctly - large gaps on ends do not prevent mosquitos

We enjoyed our stay and were very pleased with the property, the pictures of the Banyan tree house need to be labeled, and we had a little problem with sleeping arrangements upon our arrival due to the two beds being in the same room which is not described on the website. It was very difficult to find the property and then difficult to get out on the highway every morning. The house was very hot upon our arrival. Very little wash cloths in house but property manager dropped off a few when requested. We rented entire property for 8 nights and part of our group stayed by the pool for the majority of the stay and reported that the neighbors and 10 of their friends came over to use the pool . I was not aware that we had to share the pool with the neighborhood. Overall stay was great and property manager was very helpful and attentive to our request.

The easiest way to exit the estate is to wait until the stop lights at the nearby intersection have halted traffic, than you have plenty of time to turn on to Kalanianaole.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The guest rooms were great - they all had AC which was a plus. The house is very spacious, clean and accessible. The pool was wonderful. It's a large pool with warm water, we used it every afternoon. We enjoyed walks on our little beach - unable to swim in ocean because of the reef but didn't miss it too much. There were 10 of us so the double frig came in handy. We would recommend this house to anyone.

  Mahalo, Jessica! The house is located in a great spot -- if you drive west you are in Diamond Head and Waikiki within minutes, 20 minutes from the airport and 30 from Pearl Harbour. If you go east you will have shopping and restaurants in Hawaii Kai, which is a lovely alternative to Waikiki, and famous Hanauma Bay is minutes away for fantastic snorkeling. We highly suggest you take the scenic drive past the Bay to Waimanalo Beach, one of the most beautiful on the island. While there stop at a little place called Sweet Home Waimanalo, our new favorite restaurant that uses all local produce. Call us anytime for more suggestions!!

We enjoyed our stay in the Banyan Tree.
The view of the beach was very enjoyable.
The house was comfortable and quiet.
The location was good, being close to the 3 malls with grocery stores and other shops and good restaurants.
I want to thank the property manager for
making it possible to rent the house for 3 days.
This is the fourth time we have rented and have had a positive experience each time. The house we have liked the best was the Garden Cottage.
The swimming pool was warm and clean and we loved the mural of the dolphins swimming.
We will be back to stay in one of the units.

This home is located in an ideal central location to access all that Oahu has to offer. It is was amazingly quiet on the beach as it is in one of the nicest neighborhoods in Honolulu. The house was large and extremely clean (they even change duvets after each family leaves.) We loved it. Found you could walk a few hundred yards to a nice hotel if you want to enjoy "perfect" sand but didn't mind the waves breaking so far out because it made it quieter to sleep. We are from southern CA and learned that most good surfing beaches are not located in front of resorts or homes (excluding Waikiki) you must drive to those locations anyway. At this location you are only about 15 minutes from Waikiki and 15 from Hanauma Bay also there is great hiking and shopping nearby. My kids loved to sit in the jacuzzi at all hours of the day. Make sure you plan your excursions to avoid rush hour traffic towards Honolulu. This vacation home couldn't be better!

  Thanks for the suggestion and kind review. As this is a large shared property, we have to keep the trash cans in a central location for all guests to use and it makes it much easier when full to get them to the road if they are close to the pick up spot dictated by the State of Hawaii.

house is older than it appears in photos. it is very large with lots of common living space. the back bedroom with 2 single beds is musty and dark. the location is amazing as it is right on the beach. very shallow - perfect for young children and good snorkelling spots right in your backyard.

We were impressed with the quick action of the local management when we called about a broken shower and a drawer full of clothes. They came out immediately and took care of the problem. Our only suggestion would be to install a motion sensor light in front because it's so dark at night out there and we often had to go back and forth between the house and the cottage. Otherwise, everything was great and we have already recommended this house to friends!

Great house for a family reunion! Open floor plan and very large great room open to the kitchen and dining area. Bedrooms give nice privacy and the ocean breeze flows through the whole house. Beach provides great snorkeling and is safe from the waves and the pool is a nice break from the saltwater. Beach is small but very private.

Jacuzzi was not working. Carpets were dirty and the shower in the master bathroom leaked and sprayed water everywhere. The island is beautiful and we enjoyed our adventures around the island.

  The shower and jacuzzi have been fixed. Carpets have all been removed and replaced with wood flooring. They did not notify us about the shower during their stay or we would have sent the maintenance staff over immediately. Parts for the jucuzzi were ordered and could not be provided in time but a discount was given to tenant for this inconvenience.

Beautiful home on the beach on the south shore near Honolulu. Great location, calm waves, great yard for kids. Only possible downside is that the air conditioners are only in the bedrooms and it can kind of get stuffy in the main area when the wind isn't blowing. Overall, awesome place though.

The property is in a great location - convenient to everywhere you want to go on Honolulu. The spacious property accommodates a group and the large kitchen/dining area allows for easy cooking. Back yard area leading to the inlet is nice, spacious and a great place to spend the morning, afternoon or evening. The back bedrooms are not in as good of condition as the front bedrooms and parking/getting in and out of the property was a little difficult. Neighbors are close and watchful - best for a quiet family and not a place to plan on having guests over.

I wanted to comment that even though the website says the ocean is shallow and swimming can be done out on the reef we didn't realize that the water is SO shallow and that the reef is 1/4 of a mile out! Also we didn't realize the property is right on a busy highway so using the pool which is very close to the highway would be noisy. The house is nice but we wouldn't rent that one again
we love the private pool, hot tub, beach. great local and a short drive to town. Nice and quiet home. love the full kitchen, bath towel ect...we wil recommend this home to our friends and we will rent again.

We had our entire extended family stay in this beautiful home... the kitchen/living area is perfect for large groups. The pool table is great! And a beautiful private yard area for BBQing or sunning! The beach is a little rocky and the ocean is not really swimable at the house very shallow for a long time. (good for families with little kids). Very close to Diamond Head and Honolulu and yet feels secluded. We would definately stay here again!

We were 10 people from various countries meeting for a professional medical conference in Honolulu. The Banjan tree house changed our conference week into a week of recreation anc communication. The vast living room and the backgarden with the beach gave us opportunity for long conversations and the meals we had together with ocean view are meomories we will never forget. You never get this in the 22nd floor of a waikiki beach hotel. The highlight was the mango! Every morning we had a fresh mango the tree in the front yard dropped for us. We shared it for breakfast and caught a glimpse of paradise. When you go to Honolulu there's no better place to stay.
