  We loved the property and the location. All in all we had a great stay and would rent again or recommend to friends.The house was actually cleaner overall than we expected it to be, since it is a beach house. The only two items that we were a bit disappointed with were:
  1. The towels had a sour smell when we arrived, so we had to wash them all before using.
  2. The deck and seating area outside was very dirty. We spent a couple hours scrubbing the wood benches to make them usable. A light pressure wash between renters would be appreciated.
  
  Other than that, Hone Wai was a magical place, and we loved spending time there! Oh - and the rice cooker was amazing - we all went out and bought the same kind when we got home!

  This was our second experience with Hawaii beach homes, Inc. Last year we stayed in the best, most expensive property the company has to offer. It was $10k for the week. (paid for by my parents) This year we stayed at one of the least expensive properties. (paid for by us) We took all our kids ranging in ages 27-17. It was AWESOME!!!! It was an experience of a lifetime. The property was not as "plush" as the other house, but it was everything we could have hoped for. The common areas were better than the expensive home, with more room to play games and enjoy each other. The view was just plain breathtaking! The access to the beach was perfect. We literally walked out the back door, down six steps to the beach, where we snorkeled with turtles all day long. We have decided as a family to return back every year. The staff was also incredible (Sara), and I would like her to know we as a family will never forget our trip. Perhaps we could have spent the money on improvements on our home in Utah, but I can't imagine our children saying many years from now what a beautiful home we have. However, I know that many years from now our children will always remember our trip to Hawaii and what a wonderful experience it was. Thank You!!!

  We had such an amazing stay at the Hone Wai house. We were provided with everything we needed, the house was spotless and very comfortable. The location was unbeatable - close to the haleiwa shops and to pipeline and waimea bay. We especially loved spending our evenings overlooking the ocean from the deck - we even saw some whales!   Our stay at north shore was the best location out of the previous five visits. You can eat your breakfast on the deck while watching the surfers take on the highest waves on Oahu.   First the positives: the location was unbeatable-- We were steps away from the beach, where we saw turtles every single day. Totally thrilling. Plus, while the beach directly in front of the house was rocky, there was a very nice, uncrowded sandy beach
  a short walk down (truly short enough to walk without breaking a sweat). We had a great time swimming there (with less than a handful of people on the beach at any time), plus we could see turtles swimming around us, which was amazing. I recommend swimming
  with a mask or goggles to get a good look at the turtles! Other pluses: We were happy with the size of the house, especially the large public spaces, plus the deck where we could see so many stars at night. Haleiwa is a great little town with enough restaurants
  and shops to keep you busy if you don't want to be on the beach. We took a drive into Honolulu and I was really happy to have chosen the North Shore. As the t-shirts say, I'm happy to "keep the country country." Cons: We were surprised at the quality and maintenance
  of some aspects of the house. The bathrooms especially were disappointing: rusty curtain rods, badly stained bathroom mats, medicine cabinets that were unusable for storage (opening the one in the guest cottage was hazardous as it was very dirty inside, plus
  it seems to hold up the light fixture above it when closed, so it really isn't stable to open it). Other disappointments were the stained rugs in the house, very dusty ceiling vents (not so appealing to sleep under), blinds that needed replacing. I know that
  a beach home has challenging maintenance issues, and that Hawaii is an expensive place to stay, but we were expecting more in terms of cleanliness and upkeep of the home. Still we had a fantastic time on the North Shore and truly loved the location of the
  house. If some of these updates were made, I would recommend Hone Wai to my friends/family without reservations.

  Hone Wai is fanatastic! We absolutely loved it. The house is lovely, roomy, airy and in the ultimate loaction on the North Shore. The beach was so close and yet the hedge provided some protection for our small children wandering down on to the beach. We
  were absolutely amazed by the Green Turtles swimming in the water and basking in the sun. The beach was fine for kids and the jacuzzi was great too. The Sega car game was a hit with the whole family as well. The town of Haleiwa is awesome, we did not venture
  further than here, great restaurants, shops and shave ice! A couple of improvement items, I couldn't find a clothes horse to dry my clothes on, there was no plug for the kitchen sink, we bought a faucet handle so we could use the hose outside, the security
  gate was temperamental on the final day but perfect every other day. We found this holiday to be truly relaxing and are making plans to return!

  The house was just right for us – comfortable but not fancy, and easily large enough for 3 couples and 2 toddlers. The pictures on the website are accurate and up-to-date. Everything worked – kitchen has new appliances recently. We had one small issue with the security gate to the highway, which was solved quickly by Hawaii Beach Homes, and they responded to my confusion about the coffee maker immediately and politely.
  We spent lots of time on the large deck, watching surfers and looking for whales spouting in the distance. The hot tub was clean and comfortable. One minor suggestion: the big deck umbrella was not useable, and should be replaced.
  The wide sand beach is fabulous – not for little kids to swim, but ours could play in the waves and build castles. Adults had fun swimming and snorkelling with the turtles. Best of all, the sea turtles haul out just down the beach, and a well-informed and friendly volunteer group ensures that visitors give the turtles room to move and answers all questions about them.
  We were pleased with the range of shops and restaurants in Haleiwa. The town is relaxed and friendly, and within a few minutes by car.
  Overall, our stay at Hone Wai was great - we didn't want to leave it after only one short week! I would not hesitate to recommend the house and Hawaii Beach Homes!

  We had a great time, this is a great location! The beach is beautiful! The house is very roomy, we enjoyed the sunsets and watching whales right from the deck. Surfing out front is awesome! Great waves, great to watch all of the surfers. Things that need attention are the sliding glass door to the beach, very hard to open and close. Toilet in guest house leaks around the bottom and the refrigerator did not keep things that cool, it did seem to get better towards the end of our stay. I would stay here again. Our family had a wonderful time here, great memories! thank you - The Lang Ohana!

  We loved it (loved it!). Just a couple of comments ... stove top needs attention: one element didn't work and another at a precarious angle. Fridge was good. It would be great if the hedge at ocean side of house was a bit lower (so as not to obscure panoramic ocean view when lying on daybed). An electric jug /kettle to boil water (for making pots of tea)and a large tea pot for us tea drinkers. The street light streams into the double bedroom of the house. Also didnt like the directors chairs around the dining table but overall a fantastic property in a lovely part of the world.

  Aloha! I rented two houses that shared a walkway to accommodate my friends and family for my wedding. They were absolutely on the most beautiful property with the most incredible view. The pictures are not at all misleading, the homes are every bit as beautiful as they look in the photos.
  
  Mikes had the most gorgeous master bedroom and a grand kitchen. The west side of the house neighbored the other property we rented (Hone Wai) and had beach to the east!
  
  Hone Wai had the better porch with jacuzzi inset for our reception. It also had private bungalows outside of the main house for some of our guests.
  
  I was very pleased to see that the sea turtles were not a false promise either as my 7-year-old niece was very excited to swim with them! Not only were there 5 to 7 of them out there every day, they eat and bask in the sun just a short walk up the beach! Environmental Rangers will give you a very interesting and informative lesson on sea turtles if you care to listen as they rope off the sunbathing turtles for their safety. It is refreshing to see them so well cared for. (Two of my guests stayed at Turtle Bay and never saw one turtle!)
  
  North Shore is most definitely the place to be on Oahu! We only took one trip to the populated south side to hike Diamond Head and to tour Pearl Harbor, of course. There is plenty to do within' a very short drive from the house, or the drive down the east side of the island is gorgeous as well. There were so many beautiful national parks, hiking trails, waterfalls and crazy adventures to entertain us! That is when we weren't just kickin' back on the beautiful porches of our houses and enjoying the absolute peace and joy that spending time in paradise with friends and family can bring.
  
  The process of renting was a pleasure. When I emailed a question, I got a prompt response. When I phoned, I was always assisted by very helpful and friendly staff.

  We stayed in Hone Wai for 6 nights at the end of November. The location is great, just 2 miles out of Haliewa Town, right where the turtles swim to shore! The house is homely and great for a big group of friends or a large family. The jacuzzi on the deck was used everyday. The Sega Rally machine was a bonus. However, player 1's picture doesn't work and would be pretty easy to fix.
  I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a beach getaway and beautiful scenery!

  We had a lovely time at Hone Wai--it couldn't have been a more perfect location! It just seems they haven't kept up on the maintenance of the house--one of the mounted fans wasn't working, some of the blinds were broken, the outside gate was having a tough time--it kept getting stuck and then sounding the alarm! (And one of the SEGA-RALLY games was broken!)
  Although, to their credit, someone was there the morning after we called to re-load the propane for the gas grill and to take care of the over-flowing trash bins we inherited from a previous lodger.
  Regardless, a very lovely home which made for a memorable stay on the North Shore.

  My husband , three adult "kids" and I had the pleasure of enjoying Hone Wai for one week. The location was perfect...right on the beautiful beach, lovely hot tub and the bonus of the cottage which provided us all with plenty of space and privacy. Staff was great from reservation time until check out..not overbearing, but welcome to help with any questions. Lots of good food in town..we loved Joe's and Jameison's. It was a time and a birthday I'll remember always. We swam with the dolphins in Waikiki and I even got my first tatoo(relax...a small heart with my husbands inital..after all I'm now 60 and was having LOTS of fun) We'll be back and I know you will appreciate this special place too!!

  We had a great stay at Hone Wai. The view was spectacular, the beach was great -- nice and sandy, although we never did see any turtles. But, there were plenty of surfers to watch. The weather was perfect. Walking down the beach (about 1/2 hr walk) to see one of the Lost filming sites was well worth it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, including watching the stars in the hot tub at night and hope to come back.

  We had a wonderful time at H.Hone Wai.
  A quaint house with good old Hawaiian style.
  The house is in a good location and is convenient being close to Haleiwa town.
  We had enjoyed our stay pushing the reality away and goofed off.
  We didn't want to leave.
  
  The last night of our stay in 26/DEC/08, a massive blackout hit whole Oahu Island and we suffered from the power outage.
  We gathered all the candles in the house and packed up our baggage in their lights, swept the floor with a bloom for there was no electricity to move the cleaner...
  We had to leave early in the morning next day but we couldn't even get out of the site without the power to open the gate.
  When we were struggling for the gate, the power came back!! Phew!
  It was an unforgettable experience.
  
  We'll be back again for sure.

  Nice location and the turtles were awesome! Place could use alittle update, especially new blinds. It wasn't easy using them to block the midday sun. Access to the beach with the incline really needs tended to. Owner may consider the thought the amount of electric to run all those darn fans way exceeds a nice energy efficient central air unit, it is a small house!

  Pros: Beautiful home in a nice location close to haleiwa. Nearby beautiful beaches. Pictures accurately depicted condition of home. Ridiculous number of turtles right out in front of the home. Well stocked kitchen. Well stocked towels. Sounds crazy but I loved the water hose and shower out back.
  
  Cons: Specifically asked if the home was on a sandy beach for my 3 year old and was told it was. Well, the beach was sandy however access to the water is rock and unsafe for children. Nearest sandy beach is about 75 yards away with quite strong waves for kids. Laneakea beach is about 200 yards away and nice for children. Doesn't sound far but think deep sand. Air condition was a nice bonus but they were very loud MBR unit clunked loudly when the compressor kicked in which kept my wife up at night. These are small things but to me worth mentioning. Stereo available but didn't work. Toilet didn't flush properly, but I fixed it. Charcoal grill, no charcoal but nice starter chimney. No can opener.
  
  Overall a nice property. With some small areas which could use improvement. I would recommend this property if it's openly known that it is not on a sandy beach front.

    This is a new home to our inventory and we appreciate all comments and suggestions. We will make sure that there is a can opener placed in the home. If any future guest is missing any item, please call our office during your stay and we will make sure to bring over whatever is needed or repair any items that are not working properly. Please note that the beach in front of this house changes with the season and the tide. The north shore is known for having large waves in the fall/winter season and the waves tend to move the sand down the beach a bit. However, as this guest notes, there is still sand and and a beautiful beach just to the side if the sand does shift. During the spring/summer season there is a large nice sandy beach in front of the house and the waves are much smaller. This beach is very well known for the world fameous surf spot located directly in front of the house and the large number of turtles that visit. It is nature at its finest.
