  Location on North Shore was nice, very accessable to all points onthe island. View of ocean was obstructed by owners residence, not what we expected from the pictures. Traffic to the North Shore was unexpected, sometimes quite backed up, especially on the weekend. Cottage was quaint but overcrowded with stuff. Toilet areas were small. Property was well maintained and the owners were very pleasant. Cabin had a musty smell, not fresh.

  The only thing I found misleading is apparently the owners must have added an addition to their house (which ,of course, is their prerogative) AFTER we had seen a picture of it ( no telling when it was taken- perhaps years ago) because it did restrict considerably the view of the sea from the rental cottage

  We loved the Koi pond cottage and we will definitely pay a return visit. We had never been to the North Shore before and found that the food and beaches were the best right there in Hale'iwa. We spent alot of our time exploring all parts of the island, and that was fun, but next time we will just stay put!

  For those looking for a different kind of Oahu vacation, separate from the big, high-priced resorts of Waikiki, then the Koi Pond Cottage in Haleiwa is for you. Set back behind the main living quarters, the cottage still has a great ocean view, and a wonderful porch to sit and view it from while enjoying your morning Kona coffee. It has a nice, open air floor plan and we enjoyed the outside tiki hut shower very much. The bed was comfortable, and we enjoyed the most restful sleep of our vacation here. The house is inside a gated property, which helps create a quiet solitude. Guy and Mar were gracious hosts and their 2 friendly dogs would greet us every morning. The town of Haleiwa, a quaint village with surf shops and great places to eat, is about 2 miles away. You can take the bus, but having a rental car is a good choice for getting around, since the bus can get crowded and the schedule isn't always easy to predict. Some of the best surf beaches in the world are within walking distance (a solid walk), or a short drive if you have a car. There's a nice beach for lounging just a few hundred feet from the house and sea turtles are spotted there sunning themselves almost daily. Or drag lounge chairs down to the rocks right in front of the house (there's a small sitting area that's very nice). We watched the sun set from this spot every night. As mentioned in the headline of this review, this is NOT your traditional resort stay. Haleiwa is NOT Waikiki. In fact, there are no major resorts in the area. You're living like a local. Visit a farmer's market for great local produce. I recommend a breakfast burrito from Kono's and maybe the best Thai food you'll ever have at Opal Thai. The popular Ted's Bakery is about 5 miles away. The people are friendly, the beaches aren't crowded, and the surfing is incredible, even if you just want to watch. And that's exactly why the Koi Pond Cottage and it's location are so special.

  Since we come from mountain country, we were thrilled to find a small cozy, very comfortable Hawaian style "cabin" next to the ocean only a couple of miles from a fun historic town. We relished sitting in the lounge chairs on the private beach watching the sun go down or spotting the big turtles right in front. But we also enjoyed breakfast or cocktails on the large lanai wrapping the house when the rain fell. The owners of the property, Guy and Mar were wonderful hosts and helpful in many ways.

  My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Koi Pond Cottage. The location is fantastic -- walking distance to four different surf breaks -- and the cottage is charming and well set up for guests.
  
  The landscaping is beautiful and affords one a great deal of privacy. And the outdoor shower is fantastic.
  
  The owners Guy and Marilyn could not have been kinder to us during our stay. We would highly recommend this rental to our friends.

  We loved the Koi Pond Cottage. The minute we walked in the door we felt at home and all of our busy life was left behind. Guy and Mar are the perfect hosts - there when needed and allowing us our privacy. Everything that we needed was provided in the cottage. We enjoyed exploring the island - this is a perfect location to do so - and yet, we were the happiest when we returned home to our little bit of paradise... sitting on the porch watching the surf, sunsets on the beach, the short walk to turtle beach to see the turtles romp in the surf and say 'hello' to Brutus, a large male turtle who rests each evening on the beach, and we enjoyed visits from the pups and our favorite gecko who often joined us for breakfast and dinner on the porch railing. We returned home with a piece of Mar's art - a painting of the cottage which is hanging in our dining room to remind us of a place that we will surely return to one day.   My buddy and I stayed at the Koi Pond Cottage for three nights and we really enjoyed it. I LOVED the location--so close to the best that the North Shore has to offer. The cottage ambiance is really nice; you never forget that you're on a beautiful tropical island. My only complaint would be the lack of air conditioning. I know it can be fun to leave the windows and doors open at night and hear the ocean and crickets, but sometimes it got very humid and stuffy in the house, with little relief. Sleeping was difficult sometimes. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this location to friends planning on staying on the North Shore.

  My son and I loved staying here and we are planning to come back in 2013 with a friend of mine. We stayed in the cottage more than going to the beach -- that's how much we liked it. The only small drawback what that the WI-FI signal for us was very low"
  and we could not find a place in the cottage that would give us better signal strength which meant it took a lot longer to get on the internet and we would loose connectivity. Other than that -- picture perfect and wonderful amenities. There was nothing missing.

  Absolutely wonderful! We have stayed in several vacation rentals in north shore, and this is BY FAR OUR FAVORITE! This home has a beauty and spirit that welcomes you the minute you walk in the door. True Aloha. It has a warm and welcoming personality and
  you know you have found a home in paradise! It is clean, well appointed and filled with Mar's beautiful artwork. You can tell that the owners truly love and care for this special place. It was the perfect size for our family of 4. We also rented the extra
  bedroom which is unattached, but right there. Perfect for mom and dad, while the kids loved the loft. This cozy guest house sits on an oceanfront property nestled in beautiful tropical landscaping behind the owner's home. Guy and Mar are terrific people. Friendly
  and helpful, always ready with a "hello" and there if we needed anything, yet we still felt we had complete privacy. I cant thank you both enough for the best stay EVER and hope to return as soon as possible! Location is also fantastic, right next to Chun's
  Reef. A great beach and good summer surfing. This is often where the best surf schools set up in summer. I definitely recommend taking a lesson. You will LOVE it! My husband and I are both 50- and total beginners. Kids are quick naturals. Any age, Go FOR IT!
  They say the best surfer in the world is the one having the most fun, so I guess that makes us pros! Any way, we are all hooked for life! The beach on the other side is filled with sea turtles and you will see them every day. Magical memories. Be sure to check
  out the farmers markets in Wailua and Haleiwa and pie at Ted's is a must, so is the garlic shrimp. Kua Aina, the best burger on the island. Aoki's shave ice, yum. Try the "local mix" extra li hing mui. Killer! Hawaii beach homes is also a great company. We

  We stayed at the Koi Pond Cottage for ten days with our three teenaged children and had a wonderful time. The cottage is adorable, and was roomy enough for us all. We loved listening to the rain at night and sitting on the porch with our coffee each morning. Guy and Mar are very gracious hosts, they made us feel like we were at home. A big plus was the daily visits from Julio and Remy, the Tucker's dogs, as we were missing our dogs back at home. There are two great beaches walking distance, so parking was never an issue. We would definitely stay here again.

  This cottage is so homey and comfortable, with a covered veranda where we spent many midday hours watching the surf (and the remarkable souls who play in those big waves!).   This place is a must see if staying at the North Shore. When I have a chance to make it back to Hawaii I will stay here again. Very close to a variety of sites, nice drive in to Honolulu, etc. Bed is on the softer side in case you like a harder type mattress.

  My husband and I chose to stay in the North Shore to get away from the busy life. Isn't this what people want from Hawaii? When you come to Ginger Koi, it is what you want from Hawaii. We love this place and it met all our needs. And we love "honu", which are sea turtles, and there are many around this area. It was unbelievable!! The owners were really awesome and treated us like family. This place is perfect for a family and a couple who just want a place to relax. :)

  My family with two young children stayed at this cottage for 6 nights and just loved it. Guy and Mar the property owners were very nice and even let my kids ride there horses across the street. We enjoyed the tide pools and collecting shells on the rocky beach and especially seeing the sea turtles that swam up at dusk to sleep. We walked a few houses down to a quiet sand beach to splash in the waves and the cottages sand toys and boogie boards. The cottage was beautifully decorated with Mar's paintings. Our kids loved sleeping in the loft, watching the koi fish and the geckos hanging out in the porch light eating bugs while we ate dinner. If we ever are back in Hawaii we would love to go back and stay at this cottage.

  Location was pefect. Close to a well known surf beach, locals were friendly and the waves were good when it was too big for us to surf Pipeline. The owners stay on the same property (a seperate house) and they were very helpful in sharing their local knowledge with us but at the same time we had all the privacy we needed.

  Ginger Koi Cottage suited us perfectly. The location was very handy to Hale'iwa and the north shore beaches. The view out to the ocean was lovely and we were surrounded by a beautiful garden. Guy and Marilyn were very helpful and we loved their dogs. We are already planning our next trip. The house was like a home rather than a holiday property - fitted out with all the things you need to cook, a great library of books, barbeque etc etc.

  This was the bst trip we have taken as a family (and we have been all over the world). I was a little apprehensive about going to Oahu, because I've heard it is very crowded and comercial. But this place was paradise! No crowds. Going to sleep and waking up listening to the shore break. Every morning my son and I would go to the beach behind the house and watch the giant green sea turtles wim up for a rest. The only reason to go to Honolulu is to see the Pearl Harbor Memorial and fly out.
