  We traveled with two other adult couples and wanted a space that was right on the ocean and in a laid back environment. We got just that! We enjoyed lots of outdoor activities just minutes from our house, lots of time in the sand/water right at our place and great people in the little community. I also enjoyed the local foods and farmer's markets readily available. House was really nice and met our needs... loved the upper deck area!

  We loved our stay at the Haleiwa beach house. I loved that there were little toys for the kids. The house was comfortable. The kids loved looking for geckos and got to see sea turtles and sea lions right on the beach. It was close to all amenities in Haleiwa. And Haleiwa itself was a super friendly place! I would absolutely recommend this property. I miss it already!

  We have stayed in several different properties on the North Shore and this was our absolute favorite! The location was perfect for snorkling, paddleboarding and swimming and for getting to all our favorite places in Haleiwa. The neighborhood was quiet
  and the absence of Kam highway noise was a welcome thing. The house itself was beautiful - comportable and nicely appointed. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

  We could not have wished for a more spectacular beach location. It was an absolute rural paradise! The living room and deck areas were spacious, bright, airy, and well furnished. The shower tower was fun, and beach toys appreciated.
  
  The new owners are obviously working hard to revitalize the house. I hope that this input will assist them as they work toward making time there a perfect vacation experience.
  
  1. The steep interior stairway with no hand rail is a serious safety issue. This is especially true for older guests like our 85-year-old father.
  2. I believe the online pictures misrepresent the actual furnishings in the living rooms. They seem to include previous and current pieces and not what is there now. That led us to believe there were actually more groupings like we sought.
  3. The dining chairs are unusually heavy and almost impossible to move on the floor surface. I urge you to put slides on the leg bottoms.
  4. There was a hand written note from the cleaners (along with their company literature) that announced, “tips will be appreciated.” I think that was most inappropriate.
  4. The style of beds is rather uncomfortable for a vacation rental. It is easy to run into those sharp jutting corners. Yes, we ended up with bruised shins. The mattresses were so thin some of us ended up sleeping on the luxurious couches instead.
  5. Sidewalk spots near the sprinklers are dangerously slippery all of the time.
  6. The new upstairs bathroom sink style does not provide for a counter, so a small table would be useful.
  7. I am sure you have already noted that the new cabinetry laminate is peeling off. That must be disappointing.
  
  It would not be right to end with how much we appreciated the responsive Hawaiian Beach Home service and that despite suggesting continued improvement, that we loved our time at the Haleiwa Beach Bungalow (AKA Pikake House).

    We really appreciate your feed back and are glad to hear you had such a nice time. We have taken care of the issues with the pointy bed by shaving down the corners. The owners are considering the best way to possible add a railing to the staircase. The sprinkler timers have been reset and the upstairs bathroom has new shelving for convenience. MAHALO

  We stayed here in January 2011 (toddler, 2 parents, 2 grandparents) and had a great visit. The beach is steps away and it was only about a mile or so to get into downtown. View was spectacular. Furnishings were good (not outstanding), and two parks were a very easy walk away. Quiet neighborhood. Just what we were looking for.

  Beautiful home, beautiful location...everything was wonderful for our family of 4! The kids could swim out front and our son could walk over to the Haleiwa State Beach for better waves to surf. Everyone in town very friendly. Home was tastefully decorated/updated - stocked with everything we needed. The dishwasher broke while we there and was replaced by the next day - excellent service from HBH. The only sugguestion I would have for the owners would be to provide an armoire or someplace to hang clothes in downstairs (master) bedroom - but that's it! No complaints...we didn't want to leave!! When we come back, this will be our first choice!

  This house sits practically on the ocean. Everything we expected and more. Quiet neighborhood. I loved this house and would come back in a second. Only a few problems. Dishwaser not working, sprinklers came on way to early, every morning at 6 am. Location couldn't get any better! Owners are very lucky.

  We stayed at AF Pikake in May 2009. By way of background we have two 3 year old kids, so our perception of things is influenced by what we wanted for a kid friendly destination.
  This is a great vacation house. It has been renovated, but isn't super luxurious, just a nice clean and tidy beach home. It is close to Haleiwa, and the beach is fantastic for kids, a really gentle gradient (unlike many North Shore beaches) and no big shore break. Our kids were not water confident when we arrived, and they were extremely confident when we left. The beach is literally outside the front door and the sunsets are amazing. There is also some interesting coral right outside the house for snorkeling. The only real downsides we encountered, which could be readily fixed, were that the garden sprinkler system came on at 5.30 am every day. It was incredibly loud and woke the whole house up every morning. Also, the curtains in the rooms are very thin, almost transparent fabric, so you would probably wake up at 5.30 am anyway due to the sun. If some heavier blinds could be installed, and the sprinkler turned to a later time, this house would be ideal. Another great house we stayed at nearby is Koa's, which is a bigger, much more modern house but the beach isn't quite as nice.

  I may have had too high and expection given that the property rents for approx. $500 per night after fees are included. The lower level floor was covered in sand when we arrived which we didn't feel was worth mentioning at the time as the remainder of the house was reasonably clean. The rest of our issue was not with the management company who seemed to try and help but rather with the owner. The home was to have a telephone and answering machine, none was found and after the management company delivered a phone it was determined that the service was disconnected. The washing machine had a sign on it stating that the hot water option was broken. This resulted in washing all the towels in the sink using hot water and rinsing in the washing machine to remove the odor. If the owner would only properly maintain this home it would be an exceptional location.

  I reasearched 30 specific locations on and near North Shore. I had narrowed my search to 3 beautiful homes. The determining factors for this home was 1) actualy beach FRONT property, 2) great decking (up & down) for private enjoyment, 3) spacious living arrangments, 4)updated beautiful kitchen and 5) high spead wireless internet service (which made the fact that I had to do work bearable, because I could do it out on the deck!) The bathrooms are very clean, and the closet space in the master is as big as another small bedroom! The only negative was the fact that there is not a television upstairs ... with 2 bedrooms, sitting room, dining room and kitchen areas located upstairs, I would have thought there would also be a television. We would not only stay here again, we considered buying the property! LOVED THE TOWN!
