  I didn't want to leave. And I do want to go back! The cottage is much nicer than the photos show. Also, it has been nicely updated since the photos that appear online were taken.
  
  The deck overlooking over the beach has a covered area with comfortable cushioned chairs and another uncovered section directly over the sand.
  I ran on the road to Haleiwa in the mornings and walked back on the beach. Excellent location. You can only hear cars until you open the French doors to the beach. Then it is all about the sound of waves.
  
  Cottage was very clean, plenty of appliances and linens. Large bathroom that even has beach view.
  
  My only hesitation to highly recommending this beach cottage is that it will be harder for me to book next time

  We loved the Surfer's Cottage and felt Hawaii Beach Homes, Inc. was very easy to work with. The location was perfect for us. We felt the cottage was a typical beach spot with loads of character. The only negative would be the fees that are tacked on to the bill. The fees doubled the cost of the two-day stay. We wish there was a way to alleviate these costs. Other than that, it was perfect.

  We needed a small place to stay for the week and asked for something quaint, beachfront and a place we'd like to just stay at.
  Well we got it at the quaint little "Surfers Cottage". Though the initial arrival was to a musty smell opening the large french doors soon fixed that problem and the doors never really did get shut after that (except when we went for the amazing beach walks).
  This beach area is oustanding and as we were there in late October the waves we beginning to get very large. We sat on the private deck over the beach and watched hundreds of surfers work their magic right off shore from us. Just up the beach a couple of minutes was one of the best snorkelling and swimming areas and well the view itself is to die for.
  For the two of us it was absolutely perfect and we will definitly return.
  On the practical sides just move the junky chairs aside for your stay and don't worry about the clutter or anything else - you're in paridise so just go with it...and enjoy.

  We were looking for a beach cottage right on the water - nothing fancy, just wanted to wake up and sit on a deck and drink coffee while watching the waves roll. Turned out to be even better than that - not only did we have the deck, but we could open the french door and lay in bed and watch the waves roll in!! We can not wait to go back!

  This place had everything we needed and nothing we didn't. Clean and comfortable, but not new so we didn't have to worry about every spill. The garbage disposal didn't work and we couldn't figure out how to turn on the oven on, but we didn't care. For the price we paid, I would say we got a good deal. Overall, I'm very happy with our stay.

  I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely come back as it is. However, there are some things that seem to have been neglected in the past. The entry gate and entry walkway are the first things that you see and they definitely and seriously in need repair. Also the steps down to the beach need serious repair work as they are unsafe. Air-conditioner needs to be replace or worked on as weather was not unduly hot and it had difficulty keeping up, (and could not when the toaster oven was on). Oven in the stove would not light. We loved the location, the beach, the deck, and it was fine for us and we would come back in a minute even as it is now. It just needs some serious upgrading in these areas. Oh, by the way, the toaster oven shocks you when you touch it and it is plugged in and the yard looks like a graveyard for old/used lawn chairs (getting rid of them and working on improving the lawn would help the appearance substantially.
  A wall, concrete blocks or sound deadening material would help as highway road noise is constantly distracting. However, on last comment, the open doors to the back yard and beach allow the sound of the Oh-so-close surf and beach to come in to the cottage; very nice.
  All comments are given constructively(you asked), we still loved it and would come back. Management personnel were super responsive. Thanks Sarah, Delores and any others, for whom I do not remember their names. Also, please tell Mrs. Fettig, that we enjoyed her paintings so much that we looked her work up on the internet and were very much impressed.

  The cottage was just right. The beach was the best as was the deck which overlooked the beach. I have a big complaint however, the outdoor property was a shambles. The entry walkway was so chewed-up I was afriad I'd twist my ankle on the pavers. The backyard facing the ocean was unkempt. There were chairs everywhere and they were in deplorable condition. The unit housed two people but there were at least 6-7 outdoor chairs on the small patio in front of the cottage (the deck had it's own lounge area). They were all in a discusting state. There were even two bar stools which couldn't be justified at all. Also there was a small bistro table in such bad condition no one in there right mind would eat at it. All this 'stuff' should be removed. Wouldn't cost anything and would make a much more pleasureable environment without them.

  My wife and I loved our stay here. The house is right on the beach and the lanai actually sits over the sand. Fantastic. Beach was mostly secluded, the rocks in front of the house attracted people a few times but there is still plenty of empty beach and water to enjoy. The water is very rocky so be prepared. You can easily swim out far enough to see tons of fish while snorkeling. The washer and dryer are located outside and the area they are in was covered in leafs which is what I blame for my wife being stung by a centipede. It was huge and had me nervous every time I went to the laundry area. That needs to be cleaned up and treated so that those kinds of creatures don't find it so inviting. We had a mongoose running around which was really cool and we saw many birds and a turtle came and visited for an entire day. We will definately return to this cottage. Last note is that this place sits right on Hwy 83 so you can hear road noise. Who cares though, the ocean location is so worth it.

  We really enjoyed our stay.The only thing that I would comment on was the condition of the out door furniture on the lanai.The were really old and not very would be easy to replace them with cheap, new, clean furniture.Also, this cottage might need better mats in front of the doors outside.The property is quite sandy and it is really hard to keep the dirt out of the cottage.

  We recently stayed for six nights, and it was everything we wanted. The kitchen had all appliances and servingware, and the air conditioning was great since the place gets hot and stuffy when the French doors are closed at night. The covered deck option was perfect so that we could be outside when a light rain came along.

  The view from this cottage was absolutely breathtaking! We enjoyed our stay here. We were able to see several surfers and the huge waves. On the down side, there were ants, bugs, and the lights went on and off at random. The linens had the aroma of staying in the washer too long and the place could have been cleaner...I would stay here again though because I was there for the relaxation and the view, both of which I got. :-)

  If you are looking for a quiet get away with an AWESOME view...this is the place for you! The amenities available allowed for making meals although, this "rustic" cottage is located about 3 miles from town where there are some fabulous restaurants and a bit of shopping. I found that it was an asset to have a car to enable exploration of the area. The "cottage" is located very close to the road so be aware of road noise. I had a very memorable vacation and would not hesitate to book again with Hawaii Beach Homes and would definately revisit "Surfer's Cottage"!!! : )

  A-1 location beachside at Chun's Reef. Thundering surf and glittering starry nights. Property is a little rough but adequate for those who like it simple and dont need glamorous. Great for a couple or single.

  Fantastic island location with a gorgeous view! Great island food on northshore. Only stayed for 2w nights, wish we stayed longer on northshore, sooo relaxing and sooo much more to see before heading to the hub of Waikiki! Just a couple of negative comments...
  Haliewa is a surf beach, strong current not suitable for family swimming. Was only able to play on sand and take lots of beautiful photos.
  
  Property is tired and needs some work. Weak electricity/power outlet and short circuit several times, which I'm sure could easily be fixed. Kitchen is super clean and orderly but bedding area needs much more dusting and cleaning around t.v/table/bench tops!
  
  View is spectactular and very central to historic town.

  The Surfer's Cottage is a little studio, with nothing fancy or luxurious. But, if you like camping out it would be a luxury in the sense of having all the conforts of home. The cottage is clean, it's right on the beach and the location is safe. The property has a covered lanai that extends out to the beach that is fabulous for viewing, eating and just relaxing. The cottage along with the beach is what makes this place great for a small family get away. With everything good there always is some bad; we did experience some minor irritations with the electricity tripping off at times at night. But, nothing stopped us from having a great time and we still give the cottage an excellent overall rating. If you call the management staff ask for "Sarah" she was very helpful in getting our reservations set up and answering out questions. Check in and Check out is really easy - no waitng in lines. We will definitly come back again sometime.

  This is basically a mother-in-law separate cottage from a main house. The deck completely makes the place - sitting out here with coffee or beers and checking out the surf was so awesome. We had a few maintenance issues the first day (hot water was out, internet was out), but management was great and promptly fixed all issues. There were a couple mice running around but we just named them - kinda comes with the territory of leaving the doors open every night. Loved the place and would definitely come back!

  The most stunning thing about this cottage is its direct access to the beach and the deck and lanai. You can hear the surf as you sleep, it's just a pity that you can also hear the trucks, motorcycles and traffic from the highway. The facilities are pretty basic - don't expect to be blown away by the decor or the attention to detail. During our stay, the microwave, telephone, internet access, hot water and various light fixtures weren't working. We also had no hot water or stove on our last night. I think that it was a bit overpriced for the level of service and quality, compared to other places we have stayed on different islands (kuai), although having said that, we did love being right on the beach and swimming with the sea turtles. We felt that with just a little more attention to detail and functionality, this could have been absolutely memorable. As it was though, we felt that perhaps calling it "surfer's shack" and taking some dollars off the overall cost would have been more appropriate.

  Air conditioners(2)not really up to par, better to open up the windows. The small bedroom was too hot to sleep in. More outdoor lighting is needed to enjoy evenings on the covered lanai area. We bought some tiki torches, which helped. The front porch light is not working, so we had to use a small flashlight to walk to the car at night.
  We loved the beach though and will definitely be back next year.
